Detection Technology sets new industry standard with off-the-shelf tileable CT detector module

Detection Technology, a global leader in X-ray imaging solutions, sets a new industry standard with the world’s first off-the-shelf, tileable CT detector module, named as X-Tile, meeting the most stringent performance requirements of the highest tier volumetric CT (computed tomography) systems. The 4-sides buttable X-Tile detector module easily scales up from 32-slice volumetric CT system up to 256-slices, enabling 160-millimeter coverage at isocenter, and beyond.

“The standard X-Tile module lowers total cost, risks and the entry barrier for original equipment manufacturers and system integrators to introduce multi-slice solutions to the highly competitive CT market. X-Tile enables the instant start of detector system development halving the time-to-market and delivering significant cost savings,” says Jyri Tolonen, Product Manager at Detection Technology’s Medical Business Unit.

State-of-the-art performance is enabled by a pixelated, ultra-fast ceramic scintillator coupled on a high-performance backside illuminated (BSI) photodiode. The scintillator is made of high-light-output, ultrafast and the finest medical grade GOS (Gadolinium oxysulfide) compound. The characteristics of the most sensitive and ultra-low dark current photodiode are achieved through the company’s unique BSI photodiode manufacturing process.

The active area size is 32 x 16 pixels providing 512 channels that support simultaneous sampling up to a speed of 17 kSPS. The solution comes with a 24-bit ADC (analog-to-digital converter) providing fast, low noise and high-resolution analog-to-digital conversion. Furthermore, the module features an adjustable full-scale range. The solution is compatible with digital LVDS and CMOS interfaces.

Detection Technology provides the strongest CT detector engineering support globally to facilitate and accelerate the system design phase and detector integration. Engineering samples of X-Tile are available, and the volume shipments will start in the first quarter of 2018. Detection Technology will demonstrate the key features of the value-based X-Tile at the RSNA 2017 trade show in Chicago on 26-30 November.
