Detection Technology makes large part inspection easy with modular X-Scan M series

Detection Technology Plc Press Release 14 December 2016 at 11:00 (EET)

Detection Technology, a global leader of X-ray imaging solutions, makes quick and accurate inspection of large-scale objects easy by debuting X-Scan M series. The modular linear detector arrays (LDA) are scalable to different inspection system lengths up to over four meters with one controller and a single Gigabit Ethernet interface. Even longer scanners can be built efficiently by networking multiple detector units together.

“We are proud to introduce the industry-first solution enabling customers to build extremely long and uniform detector arrays with superior resolution for high energy X-ray imaging. With our radiation hard photodiode and unique ASIC designs, the series provides seamless and precise digital radiography (DR) and computed tomography (CT) images of large objects like aircraft parts, industrial assemblies, and various containers”, said Tomi Fält, responsible for product management at Detection Technology.

The plug-and-play type series comes in 0.2 and 0.4 millimeter pixel pitches, and three module lengths of 410, 614, and 820 millimeters. The module housing includes built-in X-ray scatter shielding and a collimator for applications from 450 peak kilovolt (kVp) to 9 mega electron volts (MeV). Both continuous and pulsed radiation sources are supported with on-board correction for pulse-to-pulse signal variation.

Benefiting from the next-generation digital platform and the GigE interface, X-Scan M series enables wide integration time ranging from 0.2ms to 128ms per line; further expandable up to 32 s per line with built-in line summing and averaging. Robust protocol over GigE enables also remote firmware updates, and various diagnostics functions. Superior low noise performance is achieved by digitizing the X-ray signal in the detector’s front-end electronics.

Furthermore, the on-time recording of power, pixel discontinuity, and bad pixel correction ease maintenance and extend the lifetime of the detector units. Detection Technology’s X-View2 software development kit is available to support the detector installation and rapid integration of the inspection system.

X-Scan M is optimized for high energy applications, including quality control, and inspections in automotive, aerospace, and heavy industries. The series is now available globally.
