Detection Technology unveils X-ACE HS delivering faster scanning, higher slice coverage, and lower dose for next-generation CT systems

Detection Technology Plc press release 3 March 2026 at 13:00 (EET)

Detection Technology, a global leader in X-ray detector solutions, today unveils the standard X-ACE HS detector family for next-generation medical computed tomography (CT) systems. Designed to deliver faster data acquisition, expanded slice coverage up to 64 slices, and improved low-dose performance, the new high-speed (HS) detector family enables CT system manufacturers to develop higher-throughput, higher-performance systems with reduced integration complexity.

“With the introduction of the X-ACE HS family, we reinforce our position as a trusted provider of off-the-shelf CT detector solutions for value-to-premium imaging systems,” said Katja Lefèvre, Product Manager at Detection Technology. “We provide standardized, ready-to-integrate modules across multiple slice configurations, aligned with future CT trends including static CT, photon-counting CT and multi-source architectures. This enables our customers to innovate faster, reduce development risk and build scalable next-generation imaging platforms.”

X-ACE HS is available as a turnkey subsystem or as stand-alone detector modules. The family comprises the X-ACE 32 HS and X-ACE 64 HS detector modules and the X-ACE HS DAS (data acquisition system), designed for 32- and 64-slice rotating CT systems. Built on a modular platform, the product family enables faster time-to-market while maintaining cost efficiency and robust mechanical reliability.

X-ACE HS delivers integration times down to 50 µs, enabling high-speed gantry rotation and static CT imaging, supporting demanding clinical workflows such as emergency and trauma imaging. Extended anatomical Z-coverage of 20 mm in the 32 HS detector and 40 mm in the 64 HS allows larger anatomy capture per rotation, reducing scan time and motion artefacts while improving patient throughput.

At the core of the detector architecture is an ultra-fast, high-light-output medical-grade GOS scintillator combined with new backside-illuminated (BSI) photodiode technology. This combination reduces detector noise by approximately 60 percent compared to the previous platform, significantly improving signal-to-noise ratio and enabling high image quality at lower radiation dose. A 24-bit high-speed ADC with automatic full-scale range scaling up to 320 pC ensures stable, high-fidelity signal conversion across a wide dynamic range.

Despite the increased performance, power consumption remains below 1.5 W for the 32 HS and below 3 W for the 64 HS, simplifying gantry thermal management and supporting compact, energy-efficient system design. Compact module dimensions with consistent width across both versions facilitate mechanical platform reuse. An aluminum bracket with anti-scatter grid (ASG) and gantry guide mounting improves alignment precision and structural rigidity, while simplified electrical interfaces reduce cabling complexity and integration effort.

The X-ACE HS family is also available as a complete subsystem through Detection Technology’s AIDA platform. The platform integrates data acquisition electronics, synchronized readout, software libraries, and high-bandwidth communication up to 10 Gbps, reducing non-recurring engineering effort and accelerating CT system development.

In addition to rotating CT, the platform supports emerging static and stationary CT architectures, where high signal-to-noise ratio, precise timing and mechanical stability are critical. The combination of fast integration, low noise, and 2-sides tileable module design enables scalable stationary detector arrays, while the synchronized AIDA subsystem supports stable, high-throughput multi-detector capture.

The X-ACE 32 HS and X-ACE 64 HS are commercially available, and deliveries have commenced. Detection Technology will showcase the X-ACE HS detector family and the all-in-one CT detector system, AIDA, at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna, Austria, on 4–8 March 2026.
